The Game UN:Me: An Cerebral Thriller Merging Silent Hill with Among Us Mechanics
The latest Day of the Devs online presentation revealed a number of intriguing future games, but one in particular has captured the imagination: UN:Me. Developed by Historia and Shueisha Games, this single-player experience appears to blend the dread-filled setting of a Silent Hill title with the suspicion-driven heart of Among Us.
"This is a distinctive experience where a girl harboring several human souls within her needs to flee from a labyrinth of the mind," states producer Yasukazu Kawai.
Stepping Into a Shattered Consciousness
In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed heroine seeming to be of high school age. Inside her reside four separate souls, all possessing unique fears and drives. These entities can seize control spontaneously, releasing their innermost terrors upon her without warning.
Judging by showcased footage, much of the action takes place within a eerie medical facility, while other scenes depict the main character exploring a abandoned church.
A World of Personal Dread
"What are you fearful of? What causes you uncomfortable?" poses game director Shun Sasaki. "Heights. Small rooms. Authority figures. Elements that appear minor to other people can activate something primal within us. This game delves into that concept — fears that are unique to every individual."
The central gameplay loop involves managing the persona that emerges at a particular time. However, these souls will change involuntarily as you play. During exploration, each soul's anxieties become amplified and attack the protagonist one after another. When the soul shifts, so does the particular terror the player encounters.
Eerie Aesthetics and a Deadly Decision
Initially, UN:Me shares striking visual similarities with the Silent Hill franchise. The setting is populated by orderlies who all share the identical visage, with disturbingly broad grins. Figures in the lobby have enormous blooms where their heads should be. Flowers are a recurring element, juxtaposing organic elegance with supernatural dread.
Yet, UN:Me presents a singular mechanic. Players are tasked with deducing which of the four entities haunting the heroine is the "real" one. "Each of the personas asserts that the physical form is rightfully them," notes a creator. "Throughout the game, you need to figure out who is authentic."
Once players have deduced a persona is fake, they are forced to destroy it. However, because every entity can deceive or hide the truth, it is incredibly simple to make a mistake.
"Maybe you've already destroyed the real [soul] with your own hands," the narration suggests. "The last one remaining might be a fake. In any case, your choices are final."
UN:Me currently lacks a confirmed release date, but it is can be follow on platforms.
