Exactly 30 years since the original Toy Story movie debuted, launching the animation giant as a leading animation studio and introducing audiences to beloved characters like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.

In 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, offering a brief look into the storyline but leaving fans wondering how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Gang

In the teaser shows Bonnie — who inherited the toy collection when he left for college — getting a brand new plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She acquires her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. However, the toys seem to view it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser doesn't touch on is what Woody is back with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a carnival and helping prize toys find good homes.

Certainly, the filmmakers will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with him. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?

Continuity from the Previous Film

At the very least, some elements are continuing from the prior film. The last thing Woody did before setting off for his fresh path was pass his symbol of authority to Jessie (the voice actor), entrusting her in charge of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the badge pinned to her shirt.

It is hoped she is remains the key figure among the toys.
