The British tennis star secured the most important win of his professional journey by rallying from a set down to overcome top-ranked player Carlos Alcaraz 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the early stage of the Paris Masters.

While he had previously beaten Alcaraz on two separate matches, this victory signifies Norrie's first ever win over a current world number one.

"Huge. Extremely important for me," commented Norrie, who joins as the latest English competitor in the record books to overcome a world No 1. "Returning from injury last year, I was defeated in the opening stage of qualifying rounds here. I just aimed to enjoy my performance in the latter part of the year. To get a triumph like this, it's the greatest win of my career, my maiden triumph over the top player and arguably the most confident competitor in the tennis scene right now."

Norrie, ranked 31st in the world, also ended Alcaraz's supreme sequence of nine finals in a row and 17 straight premier event wins, which marked the best series of performances in the Spaniard's early career.

The top seed seemed to be advancing smoothly towards victory in the beginning as he sailed in the initial stanza. However, Norrie slowly battled back back into the game by delivering with sharper placement and dragging the Spaniard into extended, demanding rallies. His unceasing consistency and reliability slowly made an impact.

Through most of the battle, Alcaraz performed well on serve but he found it challenging to get his timing right with his rally strokes. On the other side, the British player presented his opponent minimal unforced errors, sustaining his consistency, physicality and power all match while serving efficiently and choosing his moments to advance into the court and attack well.
