Manchester United Set to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Major Signing for the WSL Side
Schüller, who has six months remaining on her deal, is known as a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League side.
Her exit from Munich has been anticipated since she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the German club’s fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top forwards. Per reports, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.
Reliable Goalscoring to Boost United's Attack
The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a major uplift to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been highly consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Building Steam at Carrington
Securing Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club appear to be building positive momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the winter break has seen further business:
- The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.
Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure commented: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the American league, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
