Iran Reports Assault on US Base in Bahrain, During Widespread Counterattacks.
Tehran reports attacking a American military facility in Bahrain, as the country executed missile attacks across the region in retaliation for a "massive" and ongoing offensive targeting the nation by the United States and Israeli forces.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an vicinity near the command center of the American Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The scope of any damage is uncertain and the US has remained silent.
Missile Defenses Activated
In other parts of the Middle East, the UAE, Qatar and the State of Kuwait - each hosting US military bases - stated they have shot down missiles in their airspace.
In Doha, the Qatari Ministry of Defence said it had successfully engaged several missiles apparently targeting the al-Udeid air base, the largest American base in the Middle East.
Operation "Truthful Promise 4"
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said in a statement it was attacking American facilities and interests as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the strikes on the Islamic Republic carried out by the US and Israel on Saturday morning.
That US-Israeli operation - executed at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far targeted areas associated with the the regime, with President Trump calling on the Iranian people to rise up against the leadership.
Wider Impacts
In Israel, sirens were heard across the country after the Israeli military stated it had identified an barrage of missiles from Iran.
The Ministry of Defence of the United Arab Emirates stated that the nation has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems dealt with the projectiles with high efficiency and successfully intercepted a series of missiles," it added.
The statement noted wreckage fell on a populated district in the capital, causing some structural damage and fatalities.
The United States Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, to the south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
